I was utterly shocked to hear people say that Fei Tian keeps its students hostage, doesn’t allow students to go home, and permits students to meet with parents only once a year. This really surprised me because that’s not my experience at all! When I studied at Fei Tian, my parents came to visit me very often to spend time together. And we could spend our vacations together too!
In fact, there were times when I told my parents that I didn’t want to go anywhere because I wanted to spend that time practicing dance. They understood me and fully supported me because they could see my dedication. We’d often tell each other about how American athletes must spend all their time practicing or training to become the very best they can be. My parents knew that some things must be sacrificed to achieve results, especially in the arts.
Thanks to their support, I could fully focus on improving as a dancer. And I am more than willing to spend time on my passion and love for this art. To me, dance is not something tortuous. It’s been twelve years since I started dancing, and I still look forward to every day.
